Twenty-one years later, she graduated with honors from Bucknell, and was offered a position in the doctoral program at USC Berkeley.
She turned the doctoral program down, choosing instead, in protest of the war in Vietnam, to go to Canada.
In Canada, she married, divorced, taught a ground breaking nursing course, and moved further north, 1,000 miles north of the border, to be exact, to operate, with a partner, a sheep ranch.
Twenty years ago, she was working as a business consultant in Vancouver, B.C. when she attended a workshop I was co-facilitating. Three and a half years later, I invited her to move to Alabama and marry me.
She accepted the offer.
I don’t know if that was the smartest move she has ever made, but I do know it was mine.
Happy birthday, My Precious.
